For Performers
Come Join Us and We’ll Support You
We welcome singers to join with our band. Bring a song you want to perform and we’ll do our best to help make this enjoyable for you and our listeners. If you can let us know ahead of time (here’s our contact form) that may make things go smoother for you. You can also get with us before the session starts. Or you can simply walk up when you’re ready, let us know what you want to sing, and we’ll do find a way to make it happen.
We have a mic ready for you. You can sing from memory or bring the lyrics to read from while you sing.
Generally, we do a short intro, then you sing one or two verses, then we do a solo or two, then come back to you for an another verse, a repeat of what you sang before, or just a repeat of the head. We play this by ear as we go but our band may do better if we can get the charts or at least know the key.
We play from the Hal Leonard Real Books 6th Edition #s 1 & 2. (Book 1 in C on Amazon – Book 2 in C on Amazon). Those come in C, in Bb, in Eb, in Bass Clef… many varieties and they sometimes can be a bit expensive. You can find Kindle versions for your tablets if you prefer and you can use the iReal app for iPhones, iPad, Mac Desktops and laptops, and Android and use the 1410 Playlist which only shows chord charts but also allow you to transpose for your intrument.
You can also sit next to someone who has their own book.
Please bring your own amplification if you need it. Flutes, Clarinets, Violins may need amplification. We play with horns of various sorts whose volume may overshadow you. We don’t blair or blast but sometimes can be loud. You need to bring your own amps because there is no PA or house sound except for singers.
We try to let everyone solo. At times, there are a lot of musicians so we might have to take turns.
Pianists, drummers, bassists… you may find more than one of your kind and need to share time. Everyone, EVERYONE, is welcome.
